So I went to the supermarket all by myself

Doesn't sound very exciting or difficult for a housewife of nearly 30 years, I know.... But, there is always a but.
Firstly I had to drive - on the left hand side (not difficult keep your bum in the centre of the road - naturally the car follows), but it's also a manual - so even though I drive a German car (and all the controls are indentical) I have reverted to the days of learner driving ( in my mums baby shit yellow Cortina), to indicating my intention to turn by putting my windscreen wipers on! 
At the supermarket I had a carefully prepared a translated list, which I managed easily. I eyed off some fresh prawns, sold by grams/kgs - what to do ? I typed my request into google translate and voila. I negotiated my prawns (by flashing my iPhone message from Google translate) . This went well  - but as I left the salesman bid me a fond farewell in Italian !! My French is that bad :( 
Good news I not only drove back, but stopped to take a photo. I didn't frighten myself on the roads and for the first time since I arrived no French citizen was left shaking their head as I motored by.
The rest of today, (and yesterday) was spent by the pool, the temperature is sitting comfortably at 29 degrees, and lying by the pool on 5 acres of French countryside is very relaxing.

Not 'lost in France' just lazy ....

I know that I missed a London update, but we stayed in the same apartment; literally the 'same apartment' as we stayed in last time we were in London - nothing blog worthy about that, had lunch at Marco Pierre White's Steakhouse and again nothing remarkable there, yes you heard me (Masterchef tragics that we are) it was just that; tragic ! *I have included Wayne's review.
We went to Shakespeare at the Globe 'as you like it' - it was great, entertaining (thank goodness I had a refresher thanks to Wikipedia) and even the weather favoured us.
An early start the next day and off to France - Eurostar to Paris and after a few hours, and a change of station from Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse - one side of Paris to the other (we have previously missed the TGV, so this time we took a taxi), cloaked our bags, had a lovely lunch and before we knew it - WE MISSED THE TRAIN TO BORDEAUX, again!!! We had a lovely night in Bordeaux, went to pick up the hire car, only to find it wasn't what we ordered (way to big for small French country roads) - so we had to drive (I use the term loosely) to the airport and change cars, all before we could start our journey to Gourdon. 
Me driving, (in a fashion - left hand drive - ugly really) Wayne navigating we set off through the French countryside. We finally made it about 5pm, it was exactly as we remembered it, perfect !
We dumped our luggage and went to the supermarket for supplies, thankfully as unbeknownst to us NOTHING is open on a Sunday. So Sunday we were living our own version of 'old mother Hubbard' !
The weather is superb and watching the French Open' in real time is a treat.

* Wayne's restaurant review: "I have eaten all over the world.  I have had some amazing dining experiences. Lunch at Marco Pierre White's Steak and Ale House was certainly one of them!

Now, hold your horses - this review might not be what you're expecting - this was an amazing and memorable experience because it was so weird, and weird is not a strong enough word!

The decor is nothing sort of, well, not to put too fine a point on it - repulsive.  The staff, well, they tried hard.  Too hard, fawning, over attentive to the point of being extraordinarily obtrusive as they constantly sought reassurance about the quality of the food and their service.

The cutlery - don't start me.  I think the average Australian Coles cafeteria (remember them) had better, you could bend the fork in half with your two little fingers!  Just a word Marco, if you're going to serve steaks and provide steak knives, can you make sure they're sharp please?

Why would you serve tea in a dirty China tea pot, and in a thick poor quality coffee cup that I suspect you haven't been able to buy for at least 20 years?  In fact, that sums up the whole place, slightly grubby, very tired - and a Mecca for bus tours for the over 60's.

Oh, the food, well surprisingly not that awful - my wife swears that that she ate some of the best onion rings she has ever had...

Marco, another suggestion - Dean Martin isn't really appropriate for a Steak and Ale House, oh, and what's with the "Ale House" label - that would imply to me a reasonably interesting range of beers - about the most exotic you could manage was a Guiness.

Do yourself a favour, Marco Pierre White's Steak and Ale House is a tourist trap - don't go there.  Oh, and Marco, if you should think this review a little harsh - I'd suggest you visit your own property, and check it out for yourself."

And just like that

And just like that we are back at the airport, enjoying the spoils of full fare travel. I have satisfied my fascination with shopping, drank a suitable amount of champagne (Piper), updated and downloaded my 'ithings' and with that we are ready to be spoilt for another 12 hours through to London. 
Needless to say it's a beautiful day in Hong Kong today, as beautiful as I suspect it can manage. 
Wayne is studying up on the play we are seeing tomorrow night at the Globe, I'll be studying the lunch menu at Marco Pierre White's restaurant, they say opposites attract. 
I'm not sure if I have phone credit or not !!

Wet rainy - it's Hong Kong in May

We must remind ourselves we are on holidays! 
We are in Hong Kong it's too wet to shop, it's too boring to sit in the hotel (and watch ABC24 - Australian news) so we take a taxi (a hair raising experience in the pouring rain at high speed) to the 102 floor of the Ritz Carlton  hotel, have a delicious lunch (lobster bisque and soft shell crab salad), several gins and watch the view appear and disappear the rain and clouds. We elected not to have the burger for a mere A$250 !

Hong Kong

The flight up to Hong Kong passed very quickly, I spent a lot of time reading and note taking about places to visit and local recipes to try from the Dordogne. I watched two movies, both I had meant to see and didn't (Still Alice* and the Imitation Game) and drank a beautiful Austrian GrĂ¼ner Veltliner, that helped the time pass. 
Thermy didn't enjoy the same comfort she spent the day in the overhead locker and not surprisingly she was ready for bed when we arrived in Hing Kong. 
We made it to The Peninsula Hotel, had a lovely dinner and went off to sleep, day one - perfect !
Our hotel foyer looks like a theme park! (If bars and restaurants)

Let the festivities begin.....

After so much preparation, the day has arrived and we are off on our adventure!! I'm loaded up with French phrase books, cookbooks and way too many clothes, so watch this space......
What better way to kick off the holiday than with champagne, cheese and macaroons. Thank you to everyone for their kind wishes and if my ankle holds up - after I rolled it on Thursday night - we are off to Hong Kong tomorrow !
